In an exciting development for tech enthusiasts, Google appears to be taking a page from Apple’s playbook by introducing a much-anticipated feature for its Pixel Watch that will alert users if they inadvertently leave their device behind. This functionality not only serves as a gentle reminder when you’re about to leave home but also acts as a safety measure against theft by notifying you if your watch is taken without your consent.
Currently, this handy feature is absent from the Pixel Watch, which has sparked interest among users wondering when it might arrive. However, recent discoveries indicate that Google is indeed working on implementing this capability.
The investigation into the software has revealed snippets of code related to a feature dubbed "Notify when left behind." Here’s a glimpse of what we found:
Code snippet:
From this code, we can glean that certain conditions must be met for the feature to function effectively. Notably, both the Pixel Watch and the paired phone need to have their Bluetooth enabled for the alerts to work properly.
Additionally, it seems that this feature may only be available on specific models of the Pixel Watch, as indicated by another part of the code:
Beyond just sending notifications, this new feature could further enhance security by automatically locking the Pixel Watch if it becomes disconnected from the phone. It would also lock the watch when Airplane Mode is activated, which disables Bluetooth connectivity.
Users will likely have the option to disable these alerts in trusted locations, such as at home, ensuring that you won’t receive unnecessary notifications while you are in a safe environment.
While we haven’t had the chance to test this feature yet, and there’s no definitive timeline for its rollout, it’s clear that Google is making strides towards enhancing the functionality of the Pixel Watch. Furthermore, it appears that Google is also developing an additional feature that will notify users when they forget their phone—yet another layer of convenience for Pixel Watch users.
⚠️ It’s important to note that an APK teardown allows us to speculate on future features based on code that’s still in development. However, the features unearthed may not necessarily make it to a public release, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed and update you as we learn more.
