We presented our Centenary wines at the third edition of the Italian Wine Exchange organized by the Warsaw Office of the ICE. An event attended by many Italian wineries to present their best products to the Polish market. In Poland our wines are still quite unknown, and limited in preference to Prosecco, Primitivo and Pinot Grigio. However, Italy has been confirmed for years as the main supplier of wines in Poland, Italian imported wines benefited from an increase of + 20.7% in 2019.
Sparkling wine is on the rise, both in value (+ 50%) and in volume (+ 40%), and the sale of wine by the glass is also successful. The main sales channel in Poland remains the large-scale distribution, with a share of about 50% of the imported wine, to aggravate the situation for the Italians are the distribution chains, held in oligopoly by German and French companies. Unfortunately, the only alternative channel for retail wine sales is direct contact with specialized importers and distributors, and contacts with hotels and restaurants.
Andrzej Sajniak, of Caterteam Sp.zo.o, owner of the “Piccola Italia & Mediterraneo” stores in Warsaw, released a recent interview in which he confirms the excellent reputation of Italian wine and the need to invest more in activities promotional that can make known the many existing varieties.
